Full Time Hospice Administrator Start-Up

As a Hospice Administrator, here’s a big-picture view of what you’ll do:

  • Acts as liaison with the CEO/governing body, including provision of reports as designated by the owner/governing body.
  • Ensures the implementation of a budgeting process and accounting system, as well as achievement of financial goals.
  • Production of timely and accurate financial statements, including identification and reporting of variances in planned revenue and expense vs. budget.
  • Ensures accurate and timely billing and collection compliant with applicable law, regulation and contract provisions.
  • Ensures appropriate data collection, QAPI and regular, complete reports are received by the Governing Body.
  • Evaluates, selects and purchases adequate equipment and supplies to support hospice office operations.
  • Primarily responsible to ensure that established processes are in place to screen, hire, orient, educate and retain a sufficient number of hospice employees to meet the care needs of the hospice patients/families.
  • Provision of resources to recruit and retain is sufficient, and qualified employees and volunteers deliver hospice care in accordance with law and regulation and standards of practice and to provide their appropriate supervision.
  • Ensures patient/family access to appropriate management staff during all hours of operation.
  • Contracts adequate and available facilities to provide short term inpatient care and respite care for hospice patients.
  • Primarily responsible for evaluating the care provided to ensure that it is in compliance with established policies and procedures; reflects accepted standards of hospice clinical practice; complies with law and regulation and contract provisions; as well as applicable government guidelines (e.g., CDC, OSHA).
  • Ensures that effective processes are in place to provide:
  • adequate and appropriate supervision of hospice employees;
  • employee access to appropriately qualified supervisory staff during all hours of operations;
  • oversight of and assistance to clinical supervisors;
  • ongoing education of hospice employees about: regulations, guidelines, current standards of hospice and palliative care practice, Interim HealthCare Hospice policies and procedures and the quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) program and each employee’s role in such.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with key referral partners, Schedule meetings, lunch and learns, and meet and greets to expand referral networks and increase brand visibility.
  • Ensure engaging content delivery and follow-up to reinforce messaging.
  • Represent the organization with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Responsible for the adequate inventory of, and procedures regarding access to, drugs, biologicals, medical appliances and supplies to meet the care needs of the patients per the benefit provisions of the patient’s payor source and for the day-to-day delivery of care.
  • Ensures appropriate admission, discharge and transfer of hospice patients as well as the revocation of hospice services.
A few must-haves for Hospice Administrator:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Experience working start-ups or acquisitions with a successful track record
  • Active license to practice as an RN in GA
  • Five (5) years of hospice experience within the last seven (7) years preferred
  • Three (3) years’ experience in healthcare management within the last 5 years, preferably in hospice.
  • Knowledge of the scope of regulations, and standards of practice that apply to hospice care and the scope of services provided.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, retain and manage an effective team of health professionals of multiple disciplines, as well as paraprofessionals in the home and inpatient settings.
  • Demonstrated multi-tasking ability and effective organizational skills in order to meet short deadlines with finite resources.
  • Ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative employees.
  • Computer proficiency including the ability to utilize software programs used by the organization.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the hospice philosophy of care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work as a member of the IDG.
  • Effectively communicate with clinical and non-clinical employees, patients and family/caregivers.
  • Effectively deal with change.
