HVAC Technician – Job Description

Position Summary:

The HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in commercial and/or residential environments. This role ensures all equipment operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, service, and repair HVAC systems including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ventilation units, and thermostats.

Perform routine preventative maintenance to enhance system performance and extend equipment life.

Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using testing equipment and technical manuals.

Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.

Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal codes and safety standards.

Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and system conditions.

Communicate clearly with customers or supervisors regarding repair needs, timelines, and recommendations.

Respond to emergency service calls as needed.

Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean, safe, and organized.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.

5-10 years of HVAC service or installation experience (or equivalent apprenticeship).

EPA 608 Certification required.

Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration principles, and electrical fundamentals.

Ability to troubleshoot independently and manage multiple tasks.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.

Comfortable working in confined spaces, heights, extreme temperatures, and outdoor conditions.

Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and use of hand/power tools.

Work Environment:

This role may require travel to various customer sites and occasional on-call or after-hours work.
