Atlanta International School (AIS) is a 3K to Grade 12 IB World School that brings together students, educators, and families from more than ninety countries. Guided by our three pillars of the IB Continuum, Intercultural Understanding, and Language Learning, AIS offers a globally minded, inquiry-driven education that prepares students to lead with purpose and integrity.

Our Buckhead Campus is an urban learning environment in the heart of Atlanta, giving students access to the cultural, academic, and professional opportunities of a major international city. Museums, universities, arts institutions, and civic organizations serve as extensions of our classrooms.

Our Sandy Springs Campus sits on twenty four wooded acres along the Chattahoochee River and is home to the Mouratoglou Atlanta Academy tennis program. This nature-rich setting provides space for outdoor learning, partnerships, and unique student experiences.

Across both campuses, AIS delivers a unified curriculum through the full IB continuum. Students pursue multiple pathways to graduation, including the IB Diploma Programme, the IB Careers-related Programme, AISx flexible pathways, and the AIS Impact Diploma. JOB PURPOSE

AIS teachers inspire students from diverse backgrounds to become courageous leaders in a culturally responsive and restorative learning environment. We are a team of innovative educators dedicated to creating inquiry-based lessons that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. At AIS, teachers ignite and sustain student curiosity by co-creating meaningful learning experiences that encourage students to apply their knowledge and skills for positive impact. As part of the Buckhead Campus team, you’ll work with students in a 3K12 urban school setting incredible experiential learning opportunities in Atlanta.

Teachers at the Buckhead Campus benefit from strong support within a unified, dual-campus structure, working closely with a departmental leader (Group and/or Subject Leaders), a team of subject teachers at the Buckhead and Sandy Springs Campuses, and IB Coordinators. This collaborative environment enables a rich exchange of resources, expertise, and shared goals across both campuses.

This is a full-time position teaching MYP and DP English at the Buckhead Campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As an English Teacher in Grades 6-12, you will be expected to contribute to a stimulating and inclusive learning environment. A passion for working with adolescent learners, flexible attitude, and a sense of humor are essential. Note that teaching all grades is not expected in a particular year but flexibility is important. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Design and Deliver Engaging Learning Experiences
    • Align all teaching practices with AIS’s Definition of High Quality Learning and Teaching, ensuring that each lesson empowers students to transfer skills for impactful, positive contributions towards an inclusive, sustainable future.
    • Develop inquiry-based and engaging lessons that encourage critical thinking, global awareness, and intercultural understanding.
    • Tailor lessons to meet the diverse learning needs and backgrounds of students, incorporating student voice and interests.
    • Support students in developing IB Learner Profile attributes such as being reflective, principled, and open-minded.
  2. Foster an Inclusive and Supportive Classroom Environment
    • Create a classroom culture that values equity, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging.
    • Establish clear, consistent expectations with student input, fostering a safe space for all voices to be heard and respected.
    • Encourage collaboration, empathy, and a community-centered approach to learning.
  3. Support Social-Emotional Learning and Student Well-being
    • Provide pastoral support as an advisor to a group of students within a specified grade level, building relationships and guiding students’ personal and social development.
    • Enthusiastically participate in an annual, week-long overnight trip, fostering resilience, teamwork, and independence among students.
    • Facilitate an extracurricular activity or coach a sport, offering students opportunities to explore their interests, develop skills, and strengthen their sense of community
  4. Implement Effective Assessment Practices
    • Use a variety of formative and summative assessments aligned with IB standards to monitor and support student progress.
    • Provide timely, constructive feedback that promotes continuous growth and self-reflection.
    • Document and share student achievements, using school-approved platforms to maintain transparency with students and guardians.
  5. Supervise IB Personal Projects and Extended Essays
    • Guide students in the development of their IB Personal Projects and/or Extended Essays, supporting them in conducting research, refining their inquiry skills, and presenting their findings.
    • Provide mentorship and feedback to help students achieve their project goals while developing independence and academic integrity.
  6. Collaborate with Colleagues and Engage in Professional Growth
    • Work with other educators to plan interdisciplinary units that connect learning across subjects.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development, including IB training, to stay current with best practices.
    • Contribute to the school community’s positive culture by modeling ethical academic practices and supporting IB policies.
  7. Support Holistic Student Development
    • Encourage students to set learning goals, pursue personal inquiries, and reflect on their growth.
    • Guide students in connecting their learning to local and global contexts, inspiring them to take meaningful action in their communities.
    • Help students explore and celebrate their personal and cultural identities within the framework of IB’s commitment to international-mindedness.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Educational Background & Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in English language arts, language and literature, or a related subject.
  • Related experience in the subject area and working with adolescent learners

Specialized Skills

  • Familiarity with IB teaching or concept-based instruction (preferred); IB training will be provided as needed
