About This Role
The Georgia Pre-K Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in providing a high-quality early childhood education program for children enrolled in the Georgia Pre-K Program. The Teacher Assistant helps create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that promotes children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development while ensuring compliance with Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) and Bright from the Start requirements.
What You'll Do- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS).
- Support children during learning centers, small group activities, meals, transitions, outdoor play, and rest periods.
- Maintain active supervision of children at all times.
- Foster positive relationships with children through encouragement, guidance, and age-appropriate interactions.
- Assist with classroom management and positive behavior support strategies.
- Help prepare instructional materials, learning centers, and classroom displays.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
- Assist with documenting children's progress, observations, and classroom activities.
- Support family engagement activities, parent conferences, and center events as directed.
- Follow all licensing regulations, health and safety procedures, and center policies.
- Participate in required staff meetings, professional development training, and Georgia Pre-K trainings.
- Collaborate effectively with the Lead Teacher, administration, and other staff members.
A Georgia’s Pre-K Program assistant teacher must have one of the following credentials/degrees listed below.
- Valid Paraprofessional Certificate (issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission)
- Valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (issued by the Council for Professional Recognition)
- TCC (Technical Certificate of Credit) in Early Childhood Education
- TCD (Technical College Diploma) in Early Childhood Education
- AA, AS, AAS, AAT (Associate Degree)
- Montessori Diploma (Montessori courses must be taken from an accredited affiliate of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education [MACTE])
- BA, BS (Bachelor’s degree)
- Georgia PSC Certified Teacher • MA, MS (Master’s Degree)
- Specialist Degree or PhD
- Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA), Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC), or credentials required by the Georgia Pre-K Program and DECAL.
- Previous experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
- Must meet all Bright from the Start and Georgia Pre-K employment requirements.
- Current satisfactory criminal records check and eligibility determination.
