Senior Pastor
Job Description The Senior Pastor serves as the primary leader of the church and is responsible for providing spiritual oversight and guidance, pastoral care, and overall church administration, in accordance with Ebenezer’s By-laws. The Senior Pastor’s overall responsibility, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, is to lead members and attenders to a closer and deeper relationship with God, and as such this role requires a deep commitment to his calling, faith, effective preaching, strong leadership, and a passion for guiding the congregation in spiritual growth. We are looking for a candidate who conforms to the qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7. Following are key responsibilities that Ebenezer Baptist is looking for in a Senior Pastor.
Spiritual Leadership
- Preach the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27) through prepared sermons each week, on Sundays and Wednesdays.
- Ensure all teaching ministries follow biblical truths and align with doctrinal commitments of the church.
- Collaborate with ministerial staff and worship teams to coordinate a Christ honoring and meaningful, weekly worship service.
- Prepare Bible studies and teachings that are biblically sound and relevant to our congregation.
- Develop, execute, and communicate the church’s mission and vision by aligning ministerial activities with the church’s overall goals for spiritual and physical growth.
- Maintain and encourage the church’s commitment to The Great Commission by evangelizing the local community and engaging in local and global missions.
Pastoral Care
- Provide spiritual guidance and counselling to congregation members, in collaboration with ministerial staff and lay leadership. · Actively participate in visitation to members in hospitals, nursing homes and private residences. Offer support and prayer during these visits to provide comfort and spiritual care.
- Promote and foster a sense of community within the congregation and encourage outreach efforts to the wider community. · Conduct weddings and funerals as requested by church members
Administrative Duties
- Oversee and coordinate ministerial staff, including pastoral, ministry leaders, and church staff.
- Meet with the Deacon body and church committees on a regular basis.
- Schedule and lead church staff meetings.
- Collaborate with the Finance Team regarding budget and financial resources.
- Ensure compliance with church policies and procedures
- Moderate church business meetings
Job Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in pastoral ministry in a role that involved preaching and supervision of staff.
- Currently an ordained minister.
- Proven track record of leadership, preaching and teaching capabilities.
- Master’s degree or seminary education is a plus.
