Location: Peachtree Orthopaedic Surgery Center at Perimeter, Sandy Springs
Schedule: Enjoy the flexibility of 4–10-hour shifts with no nights, no weekends, and no on-call
Job Type: PRN; as needed
As an Operating Room Technician, you will play a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. Working under the direction of the Nurse Manager, you will collaborate with the surgical team throughout the pre-, intra-, and post-operative phases.
- Prepare the operating room and sterile field using aseptic technique.
- Provide physiological comfort and psychological support to patients.
- Maintain intraoperative awareness, including patient identification, site/procedure verification, airway management, fire safety, and specimen collection.
- Perform and reconcile surgical counts with the circulating nurse, reporting and correcting discrepancies.
- Assist with positioning, prepping, and draping patients for surgery.
- Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and respond efficiently.
- Report and correct breaks in sterile technique.
- Monitor surgical schedule progression and communicate delays or changes to the team.
- Care for specimens and cultures as directed.
- Assist with dressing application, casts, and patient transfers.
- Decontaminate instruments and equipment and clean the room between cases.
- Handle disposal of biohazardous materials appropriately.
- Maintain proper operation of equipment in the work area.
- Adhere to all policies, procedures, and standards of POSC.
- Participate in training and mentoring of new employees.
- Support preparation for State and AAAHC Surveys.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the surgical team and patient care.

The ideal Operating Room Technician is skilled, detail-oriented, and committed to patient safety. Successful candidates will bring:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Associate Degree of Applied Science, or Surgical Technology preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Technologist in Surgery- Certified (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
- Experience in materials management in a surgical setting (desired).
- Current BLS certification (required).
- Knowledge of aseptic technique, equipment handling, and OR safety protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret policies, procedures, and IFUs.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with surgeons, nurses, vendors, and staff.
- Comfort with MS Word, Outlook, Advantix, and IOS systems.
- Problem-solving skills to respond to schedule changes and variable situations with professionalism.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions: In this role, you'll experience the rigorous yet rewarding physical demands of the job. You can expect to stand, walk, talk, and hear during your shifts. There may be occasions when you're on your feet for extended periods, involving tasks such as pushing, pulling, or moving patients on stretchers. Your work environment may expose you to anesthetic gases, hazardous chemicals, blood and body fluids, sharps, and cleaning solutions. You'll need to move all extremities within the full range of motion and perform stooping and bending at 90 degrees. Regularly, you'll lift and move objects up to 20 pounds and possess specific vision abilities, including close vision. The surgical arena features a moderate noise level, creating a professional and supportive atmosphere dedicated to patient care and your professional development.
