Tax Accountant II – Indirect & Excise Tax
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Tax Accountant II to support indirect and excise tax compliance across multiple entities. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate, timely, and efficient filing of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual tax returns, along with maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax requirements.
The Tax Accountant II will also assist with maintaining tax records, preparing assigned direct and indirect tax returns, and supporting various tax-related projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual indirect and excise tax returns for multiple entities across various states and jurisdictions.
Research and evaluate nexus issues for new and existing jurisdictions to ensure ongoing compliance.
Reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts on a monthly basis to confirm accurate reporting of tax liabilities.
Respond to internal and external tax compliance inquiries and provide research support as needed.
Assist with state and local tax audits, including responding to jurisdictional notices and resolving tax inquiries.
Interpret and ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes, regulations, and legislation related to indirect and excise taxes.
Support special projects, tax research, indirect tax filings, and additional compliance tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related tax or business discipline.
3–5 years of experience in indirect and/or excise tax filing and compliance.
Experience with motor fuel or similar excise taxes is a plus, but not required.
