Cable Technician

The Communications Technician I is an entry-level role for individuals looking to begin a career in structured cabling and low-voltage systems. This position supports installation, termination, and basic construction tasks while learning industry standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install work area outlets (floor monuments, surface-mount boxes, wall outlets)
• Pull, route, and support cabling using industry methods (J-hooks, cable tray, D-rings, etc.)
• Prepare and dress cables; determine slack and label correctly
• Build and assist with IDF/MDF closets (racks, patch panels, backboards, hardware)
• Terminate low-voltage copper and basic fiber connections
• Perform fire-stopping and core penetration work
• Follow all safety, quality, and installation standards
• Complete required paperwork accurately and on time
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Tools Used:

Basic hand tools including:

• Screwdrivers, pliers, snips, cable stripper
• Tape measure, level, flashlight
• Hammer, wrench set, gloves

Required Skills:

• Basic understanding of low-voltage or structured cabling
• Familiarity with Cat5e/Cat6 cabling and color codes
• Ability to perform punch-downs and basic terminations
• Willingness to learn fiber, testing, and closet builds
• Strong attention to detail and teamwork

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fayetteville, GA.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
