Project Manager
The Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing large-scale construction projects from pre-construction through design, execution, and close-out in alignment with McKenney's objectives and goals. This role includes overseeing multi-disciplinary teams—design professionals, estimators, site managers, superintendents, foremen, subcontractors—to deliver projects that meet quality, safety, budget, and schedule targets. The Sr. PM will serve as the primary customer contact, foster strong client relationships, support business development efforts, and mentor project teams to maximize productivity and profitability. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead project execution and pre-construction activities, including conceptual estimating, scheduling, procurement, and contract management.
- Manage multi-trade construction projects ensuring adherence to safety policies, quality standards, productivity goals, and budget controls.
- Serve as the primary liaison with general contractors, owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to promote collaboration and resolve issues.
- Oversee project planning and coordination of construction and fabrication activities for efficient and successful execution.
- Lead business development efforts including sales activity, proposal development, and CRM management.
- Mentor and coach project managers, site managers, superintendents, foremen, and field staff to develop skills and improve project outcomes.
- Manage project financials including cost control, timely invoice, accounts receivable, cash flow, and overall profitability.
- Conduct regular site visits to ensure project compliance with safety requirements, quality workmanship, schedule adherence, and client satisfaction.
- Facilitate project close-out including punch list completion, startup, commissioning, owner training, and warranty administration.
- Collaborate with field operations and local union business agents to ensure appropriate labor force management and maintain positive labor relations.
- Promote company values, culture, and standards across all projects to support McKenney’s brand and growth within Southeastern USA..
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Building Construction, or a related field, OR a High School diploma with significant McKenney’s training and experience.
- Minimum 7 years managing construction projects, including at least 5 years leading turnkey design-build or government projects.
- At least 3 years’ experience in coaching, mentoring, and managing multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Proven experience with mechanical trades, commercial construction, and familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, and other construction systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, job cost accounting software, and project scheduling tools.
- Ability to interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, fire protection, and controls drawings.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Strong leadership, team-oriented, self-motivated with excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
- Customer-focused with excellent communication skills to build lasting client relationships.
- Willingness to prioritize long-term success over short-term gains.
- Exceptional ethical standards and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willing to travel regionally within the Southeast, including overnight stays as necessary
- Must be willing to travel within the Southeast USA, including overnight stays as necessary to support business development activities as well as active project sites.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience managing mechanical work, general contractor PM, or superintendent on related construction projects.
- Minimum of 7 years' experience managing turnkey design build projects or projects in the Data Center, Healthcare, or Government sector
- EIT, PE, or CEM
- US ACE QA/QC Systems Manager certification
