Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator to join our History department for the fall semester of 2026. We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also actively engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy. We want teachers who are excited to join our community of learners and collaborate with us on meeting our Strategic Plan Goals and living our mission.

Head-Royce teachers also serve as advisors and club sponsors and participate in the life of the community. We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in anti-racist pedagogy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with students at this specific age level.

Teacher will teach 3-sections of Ethnic Studies for 9th graders and advise (80% FTE) for fall semester.

Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning.

  • Expertise in teaching History (writing, reading, critical thinking) and Ethnic Studies

  • Collaborative, flexible colleague with Upper School teaching experience, with an ability to teach the full range of learners from grades 9 through 12.

  • Clear communicator with ability to liaise with students, colleagues, and parents.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of a child’s social/emotional development and developmentally appropriate curriculum for culturally responsive teaching and learning.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches as well as different styles and types of assessment.

  • Possessed of strong organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance learning.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree; ideal candidates will have an academic background in the Humanities.
  • 2-5 years minimum teaching experience.
  • Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with strong emphasis on equity and social justice.
  • Ability to provide proof of Fingerprint, TB and SB848 Clearance.
Additional Qualifications (preferred, but not required)
  • Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in in the Humanities and, or, Education.

Starting August 1, 2026. Salary dependent on years of teaching experience and education. Pro-rated for 1/2 year salary.

HRS is unable to provide immigration sponsorships such as H1B Visas.
