Shop Technician II – Fabrication

Position Summary:

Shop Tech II is a mid-level technician with several years of experience who handles various fabrication tasks with moderate supervision. Proficient with most shop tools and processes, they are key to the team, completing complex work and sometimes mentoring junior technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently fabricate and assemble metal parts per drawings and specs, using advanced machinery as needed.
• Perform precise layouts and measurements; read blueprints to ensure design tolerances are met.
• Braze and finish welded parts (grinding, polishing) for final assembly.
• Troubleshoot fabrication issues, correct misalignments or material defects, and adjust techniques as required.
• Maintain shop equipment, diagnose common problems, and address or escalate maintenance needs.
• Mentor Shop Tech I employees demonstrate tool use and safety; serve as a role model for new staff.
• Uphold safety protocols, proactively maintain a safe workspace, and correct minor hazards.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Education/Training: High school diploma required; technical certifications (blueprint reading, CNC operation) preferred.
• Experience: 2–5+ years in metal fabrication or related field; mastery of Tech I role often necessary for promotion.
• Technical Skills: Proficient with fabrication tools and techniques; capable of reading complex blueprints, using layout tools, operating machinery, and working with various metals; basic computer skills needed for CNC or software-controlled equipment.
• Problem-Solving: Able to resolve fabrication issues independently and improve efficiency.
• Communication: Can clearly share technical info with team and document work in logs or checklists.
