Registered Nurse - Breast Surgery/Oncology

Overview:

Performs a number of patient care activities in accordance with established standards and practice. Advances treatment and care of oncology patients utilizing national clinical practice standards.

Responsibilities:

1. Delivers care in multiple complex situations, providing assessment of patients biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and education needs as related to cancer diagnosis and other comorbidities.

2. Proactive member of multidisciplinary team ensuring cohesive delivery of care and treatment plans.

3. Advocate and advisor to patients and family regarding cancer journey. Monitors patient’s progression through the support resources and ancillary departments to ensure that the care is received in accordance with the established treatment plan.

4. Liaison for physicians’ practice and hospital services; providing patient education according to national standards, related to chemotherapy, therapeutic infusion, radiation oncology and surgical procedures.

5. Triage incoming communication, including phone calls, inbasket patient portal messages, prescription requests, fax requests.

6. Assist with prior authorization for treatment, testing, and prescriptions. Producing letters of medical necessity and completion of FMLA and other forms as needed.

7. Administered prescribed medication and treatments in accordance with clinical nursing standards.

8. Observes, records and reports patient’s condition. Advised physician of patients adverse reaction to drugs and or treatment.

9. Provides general medical education regarding diagnostic testing and treatment under the direction of the physician.

10. Provides in office procedure support including wound dressing, feed tube support, port flushing, hydration, and other standard clinical procedures.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Successful completion of an accredited registered nurse program or a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

One year of nursing experience in a practice, hospital, or infusion center.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:

Current license in the state of Georgia as a registered nurse or an NLC-ENLC multistate license.

BLS CPR Certification Required

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

OCN certification preferred
