Pay Range: Trainee - Min - $22.36/hour Mid - $28.51/hour Max - 34.66/hour

Certified Technician - Min - $23.29/hour Mid - $30.51/hour Max - $37.08/hour

JOB SUMMARY: Backflow Tech Trainee

The purpose of this position is to test and repair and backflow prevention devices to ensure the safety of the water supply. This is an entry level position. Incumbents in this classification are under close supervision while they are learning the necessary skills to gain their Backflow Prevention license, which is required within their first twelve months in the role.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Digs holes to install or get access to devices.
  • Assists in repairs and tests water backflow preventers in the shop and in the field; disassembles devices; cleans serviceable parts; and tests assembled devices for proper operation.
  • Learns how to replace backflow preventers in the field and tests the operation of the device with portable testing equipment.
  • Maintains inventory of repair materials.
  • Learns how to test water meters and MXU units in the field at meter sites.
  • Maintains records of work completed; may assist in maintaining hazard assessments of businesses and location records for tested and replaced devices.
  • Performs backflow surveys for commercial accounts and new residential accounts.
  • Assists in installing new water meters and backflow devices.
  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with Department/Division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
  • Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains backflow test kit, impact gun, ventilation fan and other tools and equipment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented by general knowledge in either water line installation, repair, or meter and backflow repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain Backflow Prevention certification/license within 12 months of hire.Purpose of Classification:

JOB SUMMARY: Backflow Technician (Certified)

The purpose of this position is to test and repair backflow prevention devices to keep unsafe chemicals from getting into the main water lines and to ensure the safety of the water supply.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Locates devices; digs holes to install or get access to devices; and pre-examines each device to ensure it is working properly.
  • Repairs and tests water backflow preventers in the shop and in the field; disassembles devices; cleans serviceable parts; and tests assembled devices for proper operation.

  • Maintains inventory of repair materials.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Must possess and maintain Backflow Prevention certification/license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting up to 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Tasks involve some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing; tasks may also involve some pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odor, depth, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
