Director of Clinical Services

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Clinical Services to lead our clinical team and ensure the delivery of high-quality behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment services.
Position Summary
The Director of Clinical Services is responsible for overseeing all clinical operations, ensuring the delivery of effective, ethical, and client-centered care. This leadership role provides supervision and guidance to clinical staff, maintains compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and works collaboratively with executive leadership to support organizational growth and clinical excellence.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader with extensive experience in behavioral health and substance use treatment, a passion for quality care, and a commitment to developing high-performing clinical teams.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Program Oversight
- Direct and oversee all clinical programming and treatment services.
- Ensure treatment modalities and clinical practices align with evidence-based standards.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical policies, procedures, and treatment protocols.
- Monitor clinical outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide leadership in program development, expansion, and service enhancement.
Staff Supervision & Development
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate clinical staff, including therapists, counselors, and clinical supervisors.
- Provide regular clinical supervision and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
- Support staff retention through mentorship and leadership development.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing behavioral health services.
- Maintain adherence to accreditation standards, licensing requirements, and ethical guidelines.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation reviews.
- Address clinical risk management issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
Quality Assurance
- Monitor documentation standards and clinical record compliance.
- Conduct chart reviews and oversee utilization management processes.
- Track key performance indicators and clinical outcomes.
- Lead continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Client Care & Treatment Planning
- Ensure individualized treatment plans are developed and implemented effectively.
- Support multidisciplinary treatment team collaboration.
- Provide clinical consultation on complex cases.
- Promote trauma-informed and client-centered care practices.
Organizational Leadership
- Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and organizational goals.
- Assist with budgeting, staffing plans, and resource allocation.
- Represent the organization professionally with referral sources, community partners, and stakeholders.
- Participate in leadership meetings and organizational initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related behavioral health field.
- Active clinical licensure in the state of practice (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, PsyD, PhD, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical leadership experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment.
- Strong knowledge of behavioral health regulations, clinical best practices, and documentation standards.
- Experience supervising multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Experience in residential treatment, PHP, IOP, or addiction recovery settings.
- Experience with accreditation organizations such as CARF or The Joint Commission.
- Training in trauma-informed care and evidence-based treatment modalities.
- Demonstrated success in program development and clinical operations management.
