Paralegal
O’Hagan Meyer is seeking a full-time Paralegal to join its office located in Atlanta, GA. The individual in this role supports attorneys who focus their practice on civil defense litigation, including single and multi-plaintiff suits, and complex litigation matters. The ideal candidate will have substantial litigation experience with a strong background in the handling of legal documentation as well as trial preparation and trial experience. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, possess the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and demonstrate initiative and necessary problem-solving skills.
Primary duties might include but are not limited to:
- Provide paralegal support to lawyers in the preparation, and review of legal documents such as briefs, appeals, complaints, answers, etc.
- Draft legal documents including pleadings, motions, and discovery.
- Assisting attorneys in the discovery process, including drafting discovery requests, responses, and other written discovery requests.
- Supporting legal team by requesting, analyzing, and summarizing client documents, records, and reports, and preparing chronologies and timelines.
- Preparing and serving subpoenas for records and depositions to various entities.
- Track the progress and compliance of record subpoena requests.
- Investigating claims and allegations, including conducting background investigations, interviewing witnesses, preparing statements, and gathering facts, documents, and evidence.
- Assisting attorneys with information and documents in preparation for motion practice, depositions, hearings, and trials.
- Organizing and preparing document productions and analyzing key documents.
- Conducting legal research for motion practice, hearings, and trials.
- Conducting research and compiling information for retention of, and consultation with, experts.
- Overall case planning, development, and management, and performing other case duties as assigned.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation and attend trial as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a law firm setting as a paralegal or related role.
- Bachelor’s degree required, Paralegal Certificate a plus.
- Relevant experience in civil defense litigation.
- Trial experience is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of various State and Federal court rules and procedures.
- Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, MS Office, LexisNexis, Odyssey e-file, Pacer and ECF Filing Systems. Experience with iManage or similar document management platforms a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and exceptional organizational skills.
- Excellent time and deadline management skills.
