Staff Attorney (Family Law)

Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a full-time Staff Attorney to provide family law consultations both in office and onsite at the Justice Resource Center (“Fulton JRC”) in the Fulton County Courthouse in downtown Atlanta, and in the DeKalb Family Law Information Center (“DeKalb FLIC”) in Decatur, Georgia.

Responsibilities:

• Advising and assisting unrepresented litigants with completing pro se forms, but not providing legal representation.
• Advice areas include divorce, separate maintenance, legitimation, custody, visitation, child support, alimony, contempt, family violence protective orders, name change, birth certificate amendment, domestication, and temporary minor guardianship.

Qualifications:

• Active member in good standing in the State Bar of Georgia.
• A minimum of three years of relevant legal experience (Required).
• Strong work ethic and adaptability.
• Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening, and organizational skills.
• Ability to balance compassion and pragmatism.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative, hybrid team model, with an appreciation for diversity.
• Eagerness to learn and openness to feedback.
• Demonstrated commitment to public service, participation in law school clinics or trial advocacy courses, familiarity with poverty law, and previous work with low-income people are strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in languages other than English is highly valued.

Salary and Benefits:

• The salary is $65,350 , depending on experience. Salaries are reviewed and adjusted annually, depending on funding.
