Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Care / Aging Services Underwriter to join their Healthcare Professional Liability team. We are seeking candidates in our Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, or New York offices, but will consider other BHSI office locations for qualified applicants. BHSI is a company that aims to do things differently. We look to build lasting relationships with our broker partners and insureds by providing value and stability. With a focus on top level customer service, underwriting discipline, and sound decision making, we do not burden our underwriters with aggressive growth goals that compromise our main objective – bottom line performance.

This position is open for seasoned underwriters looking to make a change, as well as less experienced candidates who are ambitious and eager to learn the business and grow their careers. The position will be responsible for an existing book of renewal business as well as developing new business opportunities via BHSI’s proven, successful, and collaborative underwriting approach. Territory assignments are flexible. The ideal candidate will exhibit both strong character and capabilities. They will want to be part of an engaging team and develop external and internal relationships.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assume and maintain an existing book of profitable renewal business and develop new customer relationships.
  • Build and maintain broker relationships with key business partners. Retail and Wholesale.
  • Leading and participating in customer and broker meetings to foster relationship building and risk selection.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Underwriting, Claim, and Actuarial to improve knowledge and drive profitability.
  • Additional opportunities for candidates interested in participating in various product development initiatives.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum BS/BA Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical and investigative skills.
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and relationship building.
  • Desire and willingness to learn, collaborate, adapt, and grow.
  • Experience underwriting Professional Liability for Senior Care / Aging Services risks.
  • Prior knowledge of complex underwriting, claims, and actuarial concepts.

The base salary range for this position is from $85,000 – $200,000 along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate’s salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience. We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture.
