Educational ASL Interpreter - Lexington, KY Virtual Schools

We're seeking a dedicated Educational Sign Language Interpreter to join our remote education team serving deaf and hard of hearing students with communication access needs across Kentucky's virtual learning initiatives. Program Structure

This full-time remote position includes 36.5 hours weekly providing interpreting services for approximately 19 students across all grade levels from early elementary through high school transition programs. You'll deliver professional interpreting support through secure online platforms while fostering inclusive educational experiences essential to student academic success.

Core Interpreting Functions

• Provide comprehensive American Sign Language interpretation during virtual classroom instruction and educational programming
• Establish clear communication pathways between students with hearing differences and educational personnel
• Deliver interpreting services for virtual individualized education meetings and collaborative planning sessions
• Coordinate effectively with teachers of the deaf, speech therapists, and educational audiologists
• Implement specialized interpreting techniques optimized for virtual delivery and online visual communication
• Support student engagement in virtual social learning opportunities and school community activities
• Maintain absolute adherence to professional interpreting standards and confidentiality requirements

Service Population Focus

Your interpreting services will benefit students accessing comprehensive educational curricula including academic subjects, therapeutic interventions, and social-emotional learning programs. You'll work with learners representing diverse communication preferences and hearing loss characteristics requiring individualized access solutions.

Essential Credentials

• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certification with minimum 3.5 score achievement
• Two years minimum documented experience providing educational interpreting in school-based environments
• Advanced American Sign Language fluency combined with excellent English language competency
• Demonstrated expertise in virtual interpreting methodologies and online educational service delivery
• Thorough understanding of deaf community perspectives, interpreting professional ethics, and educational accommodation principles
• Superior communication abilities and cross-cultural competency for diverse educational settings
• Appropriate technology infrastructure including professional video equipment and reliable high-speed connectivity

Preferred Professional Qualifications

• EIPA score of 4.0 or above indicating exceptional interpreting performance levels
• Written EIPA assessment completion demonstrating comprehensive knowledge base
• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or National Interpreter Certification (NIC) including written component
• Documented proficiency with virtual learning platforms and online educational delivery systems
• Continuing education in educational interpreting practices and deaf education methodologies
