Job Summary
We are seeking a Certified Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team dedicated to providing exceptional patient care through precise and compassionate specimen collection. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of laboratory procedures, techniques, and safety protocols to ensure accurate blood sampling and specimen processing. This role is vital in supporting clinical laboratory operations, facilitating accurate diagnoses, and maintaining high standards of patient service. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, along with experience working in hospital or clinical laboratory settings.
Duties
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety and specimen integrity.
- Prepare and label specimens accurately for laboratory testing, adhering to proper handling and processing procedures.
- Obtain vital signs and assess patient condition to ensure comfort and safety during specimen collection.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment by following infection control protocols and sterilization procedures.
- Communicate effectively with patients to explain procedures, address concerns, and provide compassionate care.
- Document collection details meticulously in accordance with hospital or laboratory policies.
- Assist in the training of new staff or students in phlebotomy techniques and laboratory procedures as needed.
- Support laboratory staff by ensuring timely processing of specimens for testing accuracy.
- Follow all safety guidelines related to bloodborne pathogens, infection control, and confidentiality standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care activities related to specimen collection.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Phlebotomist from an accredited program is required.
- Proven experience in venipuncture, blood sampling, and specimen collection within a clinical or hospital environment.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with physiology, anatomy, and the importance of specimen integrity for diagnostic accuracy.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations while demonstrating excellent patient service skills.
- Knowledge of aseptic technique, infection control practices, and safety protocols.
- Ability to accurately record vital signs and interpret basic physiological data.
- Prior hospital or clinical laboratory experience is highly desirable.
