Girls Incorporated of Greater Atlanta delivers life-changing programs that inspire girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Research-based curricula, delivered by trained professionals, equip girls to achieve academically, lead healthy and physically active lives, manage money, navigate media messages, and discover an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to pass a criminal record check and a child abuse & neglect check
Must be able to drive a rental vehicle and have a valid Georgia Driver’s License and clean driving record
Flexibility to work with all grade levels and ability to work at or travel to various Girls Inc. sites, if necessary.
Ability to lift 10-20 lbs
The STEM Facilitator leads and facilitates engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities and experiences for youth in a youth development program. This role involves creating an inclusive and inspiring learning environment, guiding participants through hands-on projects, and fostering their interest and enthusiasm for STEM subjects. The facilitator will work closely with program coordinators, educators, and volunteers to deliver impactful learning experiences that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
Job Responsibility:
1. Activity Facilitation:
· Lead and facilitate STEM activities, workshops, and projects that align with the program's goals and curriculum.
· Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation and collaboration among participants.
· Guide and support youth in hands-on experiments, coding projects, engineering challenges, and other STEM-related activities.
· Adapt facilitation techniques and materials to meet the diverse needs and skill levels of participants.
2. Subject Matter Expertise:
· Demonstrate a solid understanding of STEM subjects and concepts, and effectively communicate them to youth participants.
· Stay updated on current trends and advancements in STEM fields to provide accurate and relevant information to participants.
· Incorporate real-world examples and practical applications to enhance participants' understanding and interest in STEM.
3. Participant Engagement and Support:
· Foster a supportive and encouraging environment that empowers youth to explore, question, and experiment with STEM concepts.
· Build positive relationships with participants, offering guidance and mentorship to help them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
· Promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity by encouraging participants to explore alternative solutions and think outside the box.
· Collaborate with program coordinators and educators to identify and address individual participant needs and provide appropriate support.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
· Collaborate with program coordinators, educators, and volunteers to plan and coordinate STEM activities and ensure their successful implementation.
· Communicate program goals, objectives, and expectations to participants, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders.
· Provide regular updates on participant progress, challenges, and achievements to program coordinators and educators.
5. Program Evaluation and Improvement:
· Assist in collecting participant feedback and data to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of STEM activities.
· Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of evaluation data, and provide insights to inform program improvement efforts.
· Collaborate with program coordinators and educators to identify areas for enhancement and develop strategies to continuously improve the program.
Job Qualifications
- Experience facilitating STEM activities and projects for youth, either in formal or informal learning environments.
- Ability to lift 10-20
- Flexibility to work with all grade levels and ability to work at or travel to various Girls Inc. sites
- Strong knowledge and passion for STEM subjects, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to youth.
- Experience working with diverse youth populations and creating inclusive learning environments.
- Excellent facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire youth participants.
- Ability to adapt facilitation techniques and materials to meet the needs and interests of participants.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to encourage participants' independent thinking and creativity.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with program coordinators, educators, volunteers, and community partners.
- Basic understanding of program evaluation and data collection techniques.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing circumstances and work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Passion for youth development and a commitment to promoting equity and access in STEM education.
- Available on weekends (1-2 Saturdays a month)
