Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Tele RN experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS Required, EKG competency exams required Must-Have: - Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital - IV insertion and care, central line management - Wound care and post-op monitoring - Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation - Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams - Discharge planning and patient education Description: Registered Nurse in the MedSurg/Tele specialty. The facility has 637 licensed beds. It is designated as a Level 1 Trauma center and serves as a teaching hospital. The unit has 35 beds with a patient census of 35. The patient ratio is RN: 1:4-6 and LPN: 1:4-6. There are 2-3 CNAs per shift. Common patient types include orthopedic and trauma cases, such as fractures and head trauma. Patients may have acute or chronic diseases and post-operative needs. Co-morbidities common to the med-surg population include diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances. The role requires trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, and heparin drips. The RN will monitor vital signs and perform cardiac telemetry interpretation. Support within the department includes CNAs to assist with various patient care duties. There is unit secretary coverage from 7 AM to 11 PM. Resource nurses are available, along with respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage 24/7. Technology used includes EPIC EMR, IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and various monitoring equipment. Floating may occur to all adult med-surg/telemetry units. The schedule includes working 5-6 weekends within a 12-week period and one major holiday shift. Requests for time off will require manager approval. Scrub color for RNs is navy. The unit culture is characterized as busy, but teamwork is emphasized.
