Part-Time Park Attendant

Job Summary
Maintains watch over public property in parks, bath houses, retention areas or facilities; does related work as required. Greets guests and visitors. Provides basic information about Recreational Amenities and programs. Collects attendance information. Ensures a clean and neat appearance of the Park at all times, security, and readiness of pavilions for the public. Employee will perform a variety of duties involving the upkeep, cleaning and supervision of City Center Park and other parks, as assigned. This includes duties such as freshening up/stocking bathrooms, picking up trash, emptying trash cans, general cleanup of the parks and facilities and general maintenance. Performs other related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under direct supervision, an incumbent in
this class is responsible for the maintenance of public property at a park/recreation facility and
for the maintenance of order. Supervision is not a responsibility of this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides excellent customer service to the public (i.e.: patrons, vendors) and
co-workers including responding to inquiries and requests and resolving
customer complaints as necessary in a prompt, effective and courteous
manner.
- Performs normal duties in areas in which assigned such as day to day park
activities, special events and programs.
- Assists staff during various program activities and special events offered by
The City of Fayetteville.
- Attends in-service training and additional staff training as necessary.
- Enforces facility policies, rules and regulations as necessary.
- Assists in emergency protocol as required in training.
- Preparation of daily records as required by supervisor.
- Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice
- Assist key staff in facility set-up for organized events as necessary.
- May also perform unskilled and semi-skilled work necessary to the operation
of maintenance of parks, lawns, and grounds including manual labor,
operation of motorized equipment, equipment maintenance, building and
grounds maintenance.
- May operate City vehicles in the performance of duties or to attend training programs.
- Performs daily safety checks on equipment; ensures vehicle and equipment are maintained and cleaned.
- Performs operating procedures specific to department needs.
- Responds to and participates in emergency calls.
- Responds to customer complaints.
- Attends and participates in seminars and classes pertaining to occupation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Cleans vehicles.
- Works city parades, races, etc.
- Performs set-up and tear down activities for City functions.
- Maintains City parks.
- Repairs and replaces signs as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Requires High School Diploma or equivalent; and
- Depending on assignment, some experience in: grounds keeping; or light plumbing
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Valid Georgia state driver's license - Class C.
- Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Possess or have ability to obtain CPR/ First Aid Certification
- Other Certifications required by the job responsibilities and duties as determined by supervisor.

- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public, as well as other City staff.
- Ability to drive and operate the department's assigned vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the general public.
- Ability to follow established safety rules and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain department’s tools and equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability, to work in a variety of extreme weather conditions for an extended period of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both in and out of doors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions. Hazards associated with the operation of power tools and equipment, moving mechanical parts, and working around high voltage pumps may be present. Appropriate safety equipment must be worn when applicable.
Hourly Rate - $15.00 per hour
