Position Summary

Performs various tests on products to ensure quality standards and customer specifications are met (particle size, moisture, color, etc.). The employee is responsible for maintaining compliance with ISO standards, Huber’s Sustainability Management System within his/her sphere of influence, and any other regulatory requirements. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as required.

Shift will be Wednes day 12am-6am through Thursday - Saturday 6pm - 6am

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Mastered product testing, including, but not limited to: Particle Size Analysis, Free Moisture, Loss on Ignition, Brightness, and Bulk Density.
  2. Perform in-process and final testing on products utilizing product specifications and instrument operating procedures.
  3. Perform product testing of all parameters that are expected by Marble Hill ISO procedures and specifications.
  4. Obtain samples from Mill Operators and other production personnel in a timely manner.
  5. Good understanding of laboratory practices, procedures, and documentation.
  6. Must be able to enter quality data into a quality database. Ensures accuracy of test results and documentation.
  7. Involved extensively in the training of new or cross training Quality Technicians.
  8. Communicates to appropriate production personnel the results of product testing in a timely manner to ensure a high degree of production quality and integrity.
  9. Responsible for communication of accurate quality-related information to packaging operators for their shifts.
  10. Assists with and performs specialized product/customer testing as necessary.
  11. Maintains proper verification frequencies of QA/QC instrumentation.
  12. Prepares and sends customer Certificates of Analysis, ensuring the results are accurate and comply with customer specifications.
  13. May be asked to interact with Customers/vendors during plant visitations or during customer site visits.
  14. Follow the ISO quality system as required to ensure compliance with the ISO 9001 quality standard. Review and recommend updates to ISO documents and procedures as needed.
  15. May be asked to perform select job responsibilities of the Senior Technician in his/her absence.
  16. May be asked to assist in the preparation of customer samples as needed.
  17. Be responsible for maintaining the sample grinding area including the organization of retain samples.
  18. Maintain and communicate inventory of lab tools and supplies.
  19. Actively participate in the continuous improvement program.
  20. Assist in monitoring and maintaining good housekeeping practices throughout the quality areas.
  21. Works in accordance with Huber vision, principles, and the desired culture.
  22. May perform other duties as required.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  1. A High School diploma or GED is required. An associate’s degree or some college preferred (Chemistry/Math). Or 3 – 5 years of experience working in a similar Quality Assurance environment
  2. Must understand, read, write and speak the English language.
  3. Able to access, read and comprehend Standard Operating Procedures, Safety and Health manuals and procedures, Quality Control terminology (i.e. units of measure, etc.)
  4. Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations and basic statistics (may use a calculator to aid in calculations).
  5. Must act and work in a safe and healthy manner (both laboratory and plant practices).
  6. Must have basic knowledge of computers (software and hardware), and be willing to improve skills
  7. Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
  8. Must be able to handle high stress environment due to performing multiple activities independently with time limitations.

Physical Requirements

  1. Works mostly inside in a climate controlled indoor laboratory-type environment however may go into plant occasionally for samples, etc.
  2. Must be able to ascend and descend 14 stairs a minimum of 2 times per shift.
  3. Must be able to empty sample bucket as needed during shift
  4. Routinely exposed to vibrations, chemicals, dust for a 12-hour shift.
  5. Must be able to stand for majority of a 12-hour shift.
  6. Must be able to use hands/fingers to feel, hold and move objects. Must use arms to lift/reach.
  7. Must be able to communicate using a handheld radio as well as a standard telephone.
  8. Must have good eyesight and be able to wear the required PPE (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection etc. as required).
  9. Must be able to transport retain samples to the appropriate storage area.
