Position Summary:
As a Cook, you will prepare meals and snacks for the children enrolled in the center. You will be responsible for ensuring that meals and snacks are ready at scheduled times. You will prepare and serve food according to the approved menu, and under proper health and safety methods. You will ensure compliance with federal CACFP standards, if applicable. In addition, you may assist in classrooms when needed.This candidate should be able to work Full-time 8:00 a.m. - 5p.m. or 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. shifts as needed.
Qualifications:
- Must meet state licensing requirements for education and experience
- Ability to be trained in food service certification
- Ability to be trained in CPR, Fire Safety and Nutrition
- Must be able to meet state background check requirements.
Duties:
- Clean and inspect kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.
- Apportion and serve food to enrolled children and employees.
- Cook foodstuffs according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of portions to be served.
- Monitor use of government food commodities to ensure that proper procedures are followed.
- Wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, or other cooking equipment.
- Compile and maintain records of food use and expenditures.
- Direct activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.
- Bake breads, rolls, or other pastries.
- Train new employees.
- Take inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Monitor menus and spending to ensure that meals are prepared economically.
- Plan menus that are varied, nutritionally balanced, and appetizing, taking advantage of foods in season and local availability.
