PRN Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist

Job Summary
The Medical Lab Technologist is responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory procedures in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood banking. This role involves analyzing test results, ensuring quality control, maintaining laboratory equipment, and adhering to regulatory guidelines. The Medical Lab Technologist collaborates with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate diagnostic information essential to patient care.
Essential Functions
- Perform laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood banking, and urinalysis.
- Analyze, validate, and interpret test results to ensure diagnostic accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Perform equipment calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting according to established protocols.
- Review and verify patient specimens to confirm accuracy before testing.
- Maintain laboratory records, ensuring accurate data entry into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Assist in quality assurance programs, including proficiency testing and equipment validation.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare staff to provide accurate test results and address diagnostic concerns.
- Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, and sample processing as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
- Participate in continuing education and stay updated on advancements in laboratory technology.

- Knowledge of regulatory standards, including CLIA, CAP, and OSHA guidelines.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field required
- Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Science program preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) preferred
- Valid state license as required by the state.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
Experience
- Clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting preferred
- Experience in high complexity testing and quality control procedures preferred
