Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – The Walker School

The Walker School is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee and enhance the financial, operational, and strategic future of our vibrant independent school community.

The Role:

As CFO, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, working closely with the Head of School, Board of Trustees , and department leaders to ensure the financial sustainability and operational excellence of our institution. You'll provide strategic counsel while overseeing finance, facilities, technology, risk management, food services, safety & security, and budgeting —all in support of our mission to develop tomorrow’s leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic & Operational Leadership: Shape and execute financial strategies that align with Walker’s long-term vision.
2. Financial Stewardship & Budgeting: Develop and manage multi-year financial plans and annual budgets.
3. Operational Oversight: Lead Business Office, Facilities, Technology, Risk Management, School Store, Summer Programs, and more.
4. Governance & Community Engagement: Serve as the primary liaison for the Board’s Finance, Investment, and Buildings & Grounds Committees.

Who You Are:

1. Financial Strategist – You have 10+ years of progressive leadership in financial and operational management.
2. Independent School or Non-Profit Pro – You understand GAAP, budget planning, and nonprofit financial management.
3. Visionary Leader – You excel at strategic planning and implementing long-term financial sustainability.
4. Collaborative Partner – You build relationships across diverse stakeholder groups with exceptional communication skills.
5. Detail-Oriented & Data-Driven – You love numbers, but you also know how to tell the story behind them.
6. Tech-Savvy – Proficient in financial software, Microsoft Office, and G Suite.

Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration required; CPA strongly preferred.
2. Expertise in financial forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning.
3. Experience in independent school or non-profit environments is highly desirable.
