Description

OVERVIEW:

• Manages the activities of Sterile Processing and Distribution Departments to ensure quality service.
• Oversees daily operations and direct services to provide quality and timely delivery of all surgical instruments for cases scheduled.
• Delegates work assignments to personnel when needed.
• Assists employees with daily operations of the SPM Microsoft Instrument Computer Tracking system for Distribution and Prep/Pack Assembly.
• Directs and monitors preparation and maintenance of related charts and records.
• Seeks opportunities to maximize cost savings.
• Organizes all areas of SPD work proficiently.
• Promotes and maintains effective interdepartmental relations with medical and nursing staff.
• Organizes inventory control and ordering supplies.
• Acts as purchasing agent for Surgical Services.
• Organizes time supplies and equipment efficiently and effectively.
• Collaborates with the Operating Room to provide quality care and supplies for patient care.
• Manages departmental staff within established budget to facilitate effective services as follows: Interviews selects trains and supervises departmental staff.
• Evaluates performance making recommendations for personnel actions and motivation of employees to achieve superior performance.
• Oversees time and attendance coordination for assigned staff including monitoring overtime and productivity.
• Assists in budget development and monitors departmental budget.
• Ensures appropriate provision and utilization of departmental resources.
• Actively participates in setting monitoring and achieving goals for the department.
• Promotes and facilitates continuous quality improvement activities and teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduate of an Accredited Professional School of Nursing RN preferred.
• Five years experience as a surgical tech or SPD tech required.
• At least 1 year of management or leadership experience required.
• Surgical Technician or Sterile Processing Technician certification required.
• If RN must have a valid active license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board. Knowledge of regulatory standards sterilization decontamination process and standards and SPM Microsoft instrument computer tracking preferred.
• Must have exceptional communication skills and able to build team environment to support surgical services.
• Must be surgically oriented technically skilled.
