Who we are
Purpose Built Schools, in partnership with Atlanta Public Schools (APS), operates three neighborhood schools in South Atlanta: Slater Elementary School (PreK-5), Price Middle School (6-8) and Carver STEAM Academy (9-12). As a network of partner schools, we have the flexibility and autonomy similar to charter schools, but remain true neighborhood schools that serve every student in our attendance zone.

Neighborhood Schools
PBSA schools are neighborhood schools, not charter schools. Every student who lives in our attendance zone can enroll in our pipeline of PreK-12th grade schools
Role & Responsibilities
The School Secretary sits on the Non Instructional Team at Slater Elementary reporting to the Principal. This person will drive results by:
Administrative & Clerical Support (35%)
- Provide a range of clerical and administrative services including typing, editing, proofreading, and formatting reports, letters, and contracts.
- Maintain time and attendance records, school calendars, and staff schedules.
- Support procurement activities including purchasing supplies and tracking orders.
- Maintain payroll records and prepare basic financial reports such as deposits and disbursements.
Communication & Front Office Operations (30%)
- Answer phones, greet visitors, and manage incoming and outgoing mail.
- Serve as the first point of contact for parents, families, and community members visiting the school.
- Support coordination of meetings, appointments, and travel logistics for staff.
- Facilitate urgent or emergency communication between staff, families, and administration as needed.
Student & School Support (20%)
- Provide first aid services to students and staff in the nurse’s absence.
- Assist in transitions and student movement throughout the school day to ensure a safe, orderly environment.
- Help uphold sanitation protocols by wiping down high-touch surfaces as needed.
Additional Duties & Compliance (15%)
- Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in handling school records, correspondence, and internal communication.
- Maintain familiarity with school safety procedures and district compliance expectations.
- Adapt to changes in scheduling and on-site responsibilities as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school administrators or their representatives.
Qualifications
All PBSA employees must have the belief that all children can learn, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in using technology, and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Additionally, this person will need the following qualifications to be successful:
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred.
- At least 2–3 years of administrative or clerical experience, preferably in an educational or customer service environment.
Experience & Key Skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer-service orientation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; familiarity with student information systems preferred.
- Ability to manage confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a school-based team.
- Flexibility and adaptability to support a wide range of school operational needs.

Compensation and Benefits
Purpose Built Schools offers comprehensive benefits and a competitive salary that credits an additional step relative to verified years of experience under Atlanta Public Schools policy. The salary range for this position is $42,257 - $$62,075 . Please click on this link to find where you are on the scale.
