Staff Accountant

GHJ Search and Staffing serves as the recruitment division of GHJ, a prominent national accounting and advisory firm. Our team provides qualified Accounting and Finance professionals on a temporary and permanent basis across a broad range of industries. GHJ’s relationship with our Global Advisory and Accounting Network provides the resources needed to better understand client’s needs, attract a higher caliber of candidates and assess candidate potential.

The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Senior Accountant and Development team to ensure accurate financial tracking, reporting, and compliance for development projects. The ideal candidate has a foundation in accounting and is eager to apply it in a fast-paced, project-oriented environment. Experience in construction, real estate, or project-based accounting is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist in maintaining the general ledger for development entities

· Record journal entries and perform monthly account reconciliations

· Help track project budgets and monitor costs against actuals

· Support the preparation of financial reports, including P&Ls and balance sheets for development projects

· Process invoices and coordinate with accounts payable to ensure timely payments

· Assist with construction loan draw requests and maintain supporting documentation

· Collaborate with project managers and development team to gather financial data and resolve discrepancies

· Support annual audits and assist with tax documentation for development entities

· Help maintain organized financial records across multiple active projects

Qualifications

Required:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

·1–3 years of relevant accounting experience (internships included)

· Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with large sets of data

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

· Ability to manage multiple deadlines and communicate effectively

Preferred:

· Experience in construction or real estate accounting

· Familiarity with job cost accounting or project-based financial tracking

· Exposure to accounting software such as Sage 300 CRE, Yardi, QuickBooks, or similar

· Interest in long-term growth within real estate development finance
