POSITION OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
The purpose of a Porter position is to maintain the cleanliness of the warehouse and surrounding facilities such as washrooms, exterior docks, break rooms and local applicable health and safety standards. Duties include emptying trash and recycle bins, sweeping and mopping of floors including use of a powered floor scrubber; operating balers for plastic and cardboard recycling, dusting offices and application of industrial cleaners to sanitize washrooms and other areas when needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
• Maintain floor cleanliness by using brooms, mops, vacuum and floor scrubbers to remove dust, debris, spills, and trash. May use snow shovel to clear walkways and maintain exterior dock cleanliness.
• Operate power jacks to maneuver products and pallets for deep cleaning of rack floors.
• Follow sanitation checklists, and work assignment orders for regular cleaning and supply. maintenance of washrooms, office dusting and various area cleaning needs; utilize various cleaning aids such as sponges, wash rags, squeegees, and towels to complete assignments.
• May need to make sure cleaning materials and equipment are in good working condition, locked up correctly after use, and stock levels are maintained by taking routine stock checks.
• Follow Material Safety Data Sheets for proper use and storage of chemicals and cleaning materials; apply knowledge of chemical and cleaning products for safe use of materials including application and use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Perform pre-work inspection on all tools, materials, and equipment. • Empty waste and recycled bins to consolidate materials for removal or bundling.
• Load plastic and cardboard materials and waste into baler for compaction.
• Empty contents of portable trash dumpster into the hopper for waste removal.
• Identify areas in need of maintenance or cleaning based on visual inspection. Operate powered industrial trucks (power jack and forklift) to maneuver through the warehouse.
• Other duties may be assigned to fulfill Arcadia’s objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school graduate or general education degree (GED) from an accredited institution.
• Experience as a certified powered industrial truck operator is preferred.
• Basic reading, legible writing and arithmetic skills required.
• Strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
• Must be comfortable handling cleaning chemicals.
• High level of attention to detail. • Solid Communication skills.
• Comfortable working independently or as a team.
• Ability to work a flexible work schedule and shifts, including weekends if needed.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS: To Be Determined
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION FINGER DEXTERITY: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
TALKING: Must be able to frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
AVERAGE HEARING: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information. May be exposed to loud noise levels.
REPETITIVE MOTIONS: Movements frequently and regularly required include bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and safely climbing to perform work.
AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare and read documents, as well as inspect products, or machinery. This position will also be required to perform travel, so must be meet the requirements of operating a vehicle.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the proper equipment. Must possess mobility to work in a standard warehouse setting and work with and around a variety of equipment, parts, and inventory, to operate a motor vehicle and forklift; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium physical work. May be exposed to vibration, chemicals, dust, mechanical hazards, and moving objects or other vehicles.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Employees working in a cold storage facility may be exposed to cold and hot temperatures, loud noise levels, vibration, mechanical hazards, and moving objects or other vehicles. Employees may interact with staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Able to deal with very difficult concepts and complex variables.
MATHEMATICS ABILITY: Able to perform basic mathematical calculations, as well as apply mathematical problem solving to analyze operational and financial data.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to communicate in a two-way conversation, giving and receiving information Ability to prepare, read and understand e-mail communication, journals, abstracts, financial reports, critiques and legal documents. Ability to prepare and make comprehensive presentations, participate in formal debate, communicate extemporaneously, and communicate professionally to employees and before an audience.
