College/Department Information

Located conveniently in Augusta's downtown medical community, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home provides continuous professional nursing care to veterans of Georgia who have served in the armed forces during war times. The home is owned and funded by the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and operated through an interagency agreement with Augusta University. Through this association, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home is considered a leader in the area of geriatric educational training for Augusta University.

Job Summary

Schedules resident transportation services and assists with transportation of residents of Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home to scheduled and unscheduled appointments at the Charlie Norwood Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center. Additional responsibilities of primary importance include delivery and/or pick up of pharmaceuticals, resident supplies and equipment, office supplies and equipment, and administrative correspondence. Further responsibilities of primary importance include assisting with processing of records of residents within and discharged from the nursing home.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

TRANSPORTS RESIDENTS WHO ARE AMBULATORY OR WHEELCHAIR BOUND to and from the Charlie Norwood VA Hospital (uptown and downtown divisions), Augusta University campus and satellite clinics, and Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center.

MAINTAINS THE TRANSPORTATION LOG for resident's clinic appointments, utilizing Microsoft Excel software, including processing of daily cancellations and additions to the schedule, preparation of daily motor vehicle log, computation of mileage and passengers transported, and assists with completion of appropriate paperwork when obtaining supplies/equipment from local vendors.

PROCESSES FILES AND RECORDS OF RESIDENTS WITHIN AND DISCHARGED FROM THE NURSING HOME, including records assembly and analysis. And assists HIMS department with assignments such as assembling, copying, filing or purging and boxing active and inactive medical records.

COORDINATES AND IS PHYSICALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR WEEKLY PHARMACY UNIT DOSE PICKUP AND DELIVERY of medications between Wellstar MCG Health pharmacy and the Nursing Units of Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. Responds to STAT requests for emergency medications. Pick up PRN orders of floor stock from the pharmacy and deliver to the nursing units.

SERVES AS COURIER FOR ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL IN THE NURSING HOME. Delivers correspondence to departments to include: Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center Administration, Personnel, and Payroll; VAMC Administration, Office of Decedent Affairs, and Geriatrics and Extended Care; and to other areas both at the Summerville and Health Sciences campuses, and off campus as instructed. Secures authorized signatures on documents as needed.

MAINTAINS ACCEPTABLE VEHICLE OPERATION STANDARDS BY NOTING PROBLEMS. Schedules motor pool requirements and resident transportation need to prevent the required use of outside transportation.

ASSISTS IN ANSWERING PHONES, routes calls accordingly and records messages as needed.

OTHER DUTIES: Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Some experience with light truck/van driving or any combination of passenger transportation/training and/or experience. Must have a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in with care of the elderly
Certified nursing assistant
Prior transportation experience
Basic knowledge of first aid
Current BLS with CPR certification
Training in proper lifting and transfer of handicapped residents, boxes and equipment
Computer and typing skills.
Knowledge of the AU Summerville and Health Sciences campus departments, Wellstar MCG Health Clinic locations, VAMC clinic locations.

KNOWLEDGE

Must be able to patiently react and adjust to resident disorientation and possible aggressive behavior

SKILLS

Must possess and exercise positive interpersonal relationships and excellent communication skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to read campus maps and learn locations of campus departments and Wellstar MCG Health Clinic locations and VAMC uptown and downtown clinic locations.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Conditions of Employment

If applicable for the specific position based on the duties: the candidate will also need to have a credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage.

Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive an Augusta University vehicle.

For Faculty Hires: Final candidates will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation.

Driver's License Statement

The Human Resources Division will request a driver's history report for the identified top candidate(s) for this position.
