Senior Bookkeeper
We are an Atlanta-based business seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper who works with programmatic and financial staff to ensure accurate financial operations of funding distributions based on eligibility criteria overseen by program staff. This full-time position (40hrs/wk) offers a hybrid work arrangement (see below).
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage bookkeeping activities for one of our major clients who funds statewide early childhood educators through eligibility programs
- Prepare and submit invoices to procure funding for various program recipients, materials/supplies
- Process invoices when paid to export disbursement data to Quickbooks Online and/or to 3rd party for ACH transactions
- Transfer invoice payments to appropriate accounts; wire funds to 3rd party for ACH distributions
- Perform and manage accurate, timely funds disbursements to program recipients and for client materials/supplies contracts, including printing and signing checks and managing ACH payments
- Manage ACH transaction failures and convert to check payment as necessary
- Manage vendor accounts
- Track uncashed/returned payments; research stop payment requests; reissue checks
- Reconcile issues daily
- Communicate with payees, vendors, staff, and clients to resolve payment issues
- Research past transactions and potentially fraudulent cases
- Complete monthly pass-through bank account reconciliations, tracking credits, debits accurately
- Maintain accurate financial documentation
- Use balance sheets to track account activities over time to ensure accuracy
- Assist with annual tax document preparation and audits
The ideal candidate should have:
- Ability to securely maintain sensitive, confidential information
- Advanced use of QuickBooks Online financial software, ACH transactions
- Sense of urgency to meet critical deadlines
- Ability to flex working hours when necessary, e.g., client invoicing, annual tax preparations, audits
- Highly organized, ability to pay extreme attention to detail with accuracy; efficient time management
- Poise, professionalism in working/communicating with other staff and vendors; excellent customer service skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Creative problem-solving skills, analytical; ability to see things through to completion
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining progress towards meeting deadlines
- Excellent organizational skills; works independently
- Excellent computer skills; familiarity with MS Office software (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field, or equivalent work experience, required
- 5+ years of work experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial management, including work experience with QuickBooks Online financial software and managing ACH payments, required
- Must pass a Georgia background check
- Experience in working with financial requirements of state government agencies, helpful
Work Arrangements:
