In this role, you will be an integral part of a POD, working closely with attorneys, legal assistants, and case managers to support a variety of legal personal injury tasks. This includes handling discovery, depositions, motions, negotiation, mediation, arbitration, hearings, jury and bench trials.
Collaborate with attorneys and fellow paralegals on research and writing tasks related to a substantial caseload and other firm needs. Actively participate in the litigation department and contribute to our clients' robust representation across the firm. Additionally, you will help train new and/or offshore employees.
The ideal candidate will adhere to the firm's Standard Operating Procedures while actively seeking ways to improve existing processes. You'll exercise independent judgment in resolving both litigation and non-litigation matters for the firm and its clients. We value individuals who ask, "How can I help?"
We provide medical, dental, and vision insurance, along with a 401k plan and a compensation package ranging from $70,000.00 to $90,000.00 (depending on experience).
You will have the option to work at either the Decatur or Jonesboro office.
Compensation:$70,000 - $90,000 yearly DOE
Responsibilities:- Client Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients to gather information, provide updates, and address inquiries related to their personal injury cases
- Case Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations into the circumstances of the personal injury, collecting relevant evidence, and obtaining necessary documents
- Legal Research: Research laws, regulations, and precedents relevant to personal injury cases to support attorneys in building strong legal arguments
- Drafting Legal Documents: Prepare legal documents such as complaints, pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and responses
- Discovery Process: Assist in the discovery process by organizing and managing documents, coordinating document production, and responding to discovery requests from opposing parties
- Deposition Support: Coordinate and prepare witnesses for depositions and assist attorneys during the deposition process
- Trial Preparation: Aid in trial preparation by organizing trial exhibits, drafting witness lists, and assisting with the preparation of trial binders
- Court Filings: Ensure timely and accurate filing of court documents, including electronic filing if applicable
- Communication with Opposing Counsel: Interact professionally with opposing counsel, exchanging information and documents as required during the legal proceedings
- Mediation and Arbitration: Assist in the preparation for and participation in alternative dispute resolution processes, such as mediation and arbitration
- Settlement Negotiations: Support attorneys in negotiating settlements with opposing parties or their insurance representatives
- Legal Billing: Track billable hours and expenses related to personal injury cases for billing purposes
- Calendar Management: Manage court deadlines, hearings, and other case-related events to ensure compliance with legal timelines
- Legal Technology: Utilize legal case management software and other technology tools to efficiently manage case-related information
- Client Support: Provide general support to clients, addressing non-legal aspects of their cases and ensuring a positive client experience
- Paralegal Certificate, Associate or Bachelor's Degree
- 3 to 6 plus years of plaintiff’s litigation and/or defense work necessary
- Attendance at jury trial experience a plus
- Ability to work independently but work well as a part of the firm team, including supporting Attorneys
- Must expect to work the time necessary to handle a heavy caseload
- Possess superb writing and research skills
MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING:
- Drafting 6.4 letters
- E-filing
- Preparing deposition notebooks
- Drafting and responding to discovery & motions
- Summarizing medical records
- Drafting pleadings
- Drafting pretrial orders
