Essential Duties and Responsibilities Use a mobile service truck to perform service calls on equipment in the field Inspects, repairs, and adjusts graders, scrapers, trenching machines, pans, backhoes, diesel tractors, hydraulic and cable operated attachments, and earthmoving bulldozers. Overhaul, adjust, and tunes diesel/gasoline engines Grind valves and overhaul transmissions Repairs and replaces pistons, crankshafts, bearings, clutches, and hydraulic drivers Rebuilds and replaces tractor undercarriages, changes tracks, rollers, and frames Responsible for writing the daily reports and logs and supplied to the Superintendent at the end of every workweek Determines machine or vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures Corrects deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units Verifies proper performance by conducting test drives,adjusting controls and systems Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repair logs Contains costs by using warranty and evaluating service/parts options Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical and regulation publications Perform annual DOT inspections on trucks and trailers Troubleshoot problems, discussing with equipment manager options for making economical and practical repairs Services vehicles/equipment to include oil changes, greasing, adding fluids, changing filters, and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, and drive trains Order parts and supplies Adjust functional parts of devices, control instruments, and all types of equipment Operate and maintain field service truck Other duties as assigned Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
