JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to supervise the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment, off-road fueling and oil services, outsourcing major equipment repairs, parts room operations and purchasing of parts, and assigned personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
- Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that assigned employees have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
- Monitors fleet condition including visual inspections; assists in inspections of vehicles for consideration of replacement.
- Assists mechanics with technical issues; oversees workflow in the shop.
- Sends out notifications of preventative maintenance schedules on vehicles.
- Ensures adequate parts are on hand; provides the warehouse a yearly list of items to be removed or added.
- Supervises maintenance and repair activities performed by assigned staff; ensures proper repairs and completion of repairs; ensures compliance of policies and procedures; checks and verifies vehicles and work orders; orders parts and supplies not inventoried by CCWA; and monitors ongoing jobs for accuracy of repairs, safe work practices, and efficiency of the technicians.
- Provides guidance and direction regarding complex or difficult maintenance and repair activities; assists with maintenance and repair activities as needed; and provides technical assistance and conducts research.
- Supervises and performs design and manufacture of metal parts for vehicles and equipment; gives instruction and suggestions for design and fabrication; and ensures availability of proper tools and adherence to safety standards.
- Recommends specifications for new vehicles and equipment; conducts research regarding past performance, work order history, levels of service, service factors, new vehicle technologies, locations of service centers, ; and makes appropriate recommendations for new purchases.
- Estimates vehicle and equipment repair costs; evaluates repair needs and cost of parts and labor; provides recommendations to Department Managers on vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs; and processes purchase requisitions for approved repairs.
- Outsources maintenance and repair services outside of CCWA’s scope of in-house services; obtains price quotes and negotiates the best price for all maintenance and repair services; selects vendor; and ensures repairs are completed.
- Enters and maintains work orders and related data; runs and submits reports of daily activities, work orders, etc.; processes receipts; monitors progress of repairs; and initiates corrective actions as needed.
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with Department/Division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures; receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of Department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
- Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains vehicle diagnostic equipment, shop tools, and other tools and equipment.
- Works on-call 24/7 as scheduled.
- Performs other assigned duties.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- High School diploma or GED supplemented by training in automotive services, auto mechanics, or a related field; ten (10) years of related work experience in maintaining and repairing automobiles including lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Valid GA Commercial Driver’s License (minimum Class B), including Hazmat
Preferred Licenses/Certifications
- ASE or similar technical certification in automotive repair
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, then he or she can also do sedentary and light work.
- Tasks typically involve some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; tasks may also involve some pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes, temperature, noise extremes, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, or rude/irate customers.
- Work is performed in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others.
