Suburban Hematology Oncology Associates (SHOA) | Gwinnett County, Georgia

Suburban Hematology Oncology Associates is seeking an experienced Patient Financial Services Supervisor to lead our financial counseling team across our Gwinnett County clinic locations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands the healthcare revenue cycle and knows how to balance patient advocacy with strong financial operations. You'll lead a multi-site team responsible for helping patients understand their financial responsibility, navigating financial assistance options, resolving insurance and account issues, and addressing barriers before services are provided.

The ideal candidate brings experience in patient financial services, healthcare collections, medical billing, insurance verification, financial counseling, or patient access and is ready to lead a team in a fast-paced specialty healthcare environment.

What You'll Do

Lead the Financial Counseling Team

  • Supervise financial counselors across SHOA clinic locations.

  • Coordinate workloads and coverage across multiple sites.

  • Provide day-to-day coaching, direction, and performance support.

  • Step into financial counseling responsibilities when additional coverage is needed.

Support Patients Through the Financial Process

  • Oversee calculation and collection of patient financial responsibility and patient liability.

  • Help patients understand current and prior account balances.

  • Assist patients with financial assistance programs and applications.

  • Address patient and family billing questions professionally and compassionately.

  • Help de-escalate difficult financial conversations while working toward appropriate resolution.

Drive Revenue Cycle Coordination

  • Partner with patient access, front desk, insurance verification, and pre-certification teams to identify and resolve issues before service.

  • Provide guidance related to physician and hospital insurance billing, healthcare collections, and account follow-up.

  • Monitor insurance and coverage changes that may affect patient accounts.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate account documentation of actions taken.

  • Support data collection and financial reporting as needed.

  • Serve as a departmental liaison with Northside and participate in applicable meetings.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Prior healthcare financial counseling experience.

  • Experience working in a hospital, physician practice, outpatient clinic, or other healthcare setting.

  • Working knowledge of healthcare collections and patient financial responsibility.

  • Working knowledge of medical insurance, including Medicare, HMO, PPO, and commercial insurance.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills, including the ability to handle sensitive or difficult financial conversations with patients and families.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize responsibilities across multiple locations.

  • Computer proficiency and ability to learn healthcare systems and organizational processes.

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for regular travel between SHOA clinic locations.

Preferred

  • College degree.

  • 2–4 years of healthcare experience.

  • 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: patient financial services, healthcare collections, medical billing, patient registration, financial counseling, insurance verification, or related revenue cycle functions.

  • Previous supervisory, team lead, or multi-site leadership experience.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding.

  • Experience in oncology, hematology, specialty physician practice, or outpatient healthcare.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus but are not required.

You'll be successful in this role when your team is consistently prepared, patient financial responsibilities are communicated accurately, coverage and account issues are addressed before they become larger problems, documentation is complete, and patients receive knowledgeable and compassionate support through what can be a difficult part of their healthcare experience.

Work Environment & Travel

This is a multi-site leadership position requiring frequent travel among SHOA clinic locations in Gwinnett County . The Supervisor provides on-site leadership and operational support based on departmental needs.
