Job Title: RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience License: Registered Nurse License required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS preferred, National certification in Medical-Surgical preferred Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital Description: RN - MedSurg/Tele position available. Facility has 637 licensed beds. The facility is a Level 1 Trauma Designation, teaching hospital, and a designated Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The unit has 35 beds with an average census of 35 patients. Patient types include those with acute or chronic diseases, post-operative surgeries, and common comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances. Patient ratios are RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, and CNA: 2-3 per shift. Required skills include tracheostomy care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucose monitoring, insulin drips, and heparin drips. Candidates must be capable of managing heart rate titration, but not blood pressure. Candidates must also have experience in IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, post-operative monitoring, cardiac monitoring, and telemetry interpretation. Collaboration with an interdisciplinary team for care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education management is essential. Support within the department includes CNA duties such as assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, patient hygiene, ambulation, turning patients, hourly rounding, and transporting patients. Unit secretary coverage is available during daytime hours, and a house-wide call secretary is available during night hours. Phlebotomy is generally performed by lab staff, with nurses responsible for blood draws from central venous lines. A resource nurse team for discharge and support is available, with respiratory therapy and hospitalists on-site 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is handled by a central telemetry unit. The facility uses EPIC for EMR, Alaris for IV pumps, and Pyxis for medication dispensing. Additional unit-specific equipment includes vital sign monitors, glucose testing equipment, portable vital signs monitors, bladder scanners, and PCA pain management systems. Floating may occur to other adult med-surg/telemetry units as necessary. Work entails a weekend rotation of 5-6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule and requires working one shift on each major holiday. Requests for time off are subject to managerial approval. Scrub colors are navy for RNs and ceil blue for LPNs. The unit maintains a busy but collaborative team culture.
