Job Summary
The Grinder Operator is responsible for preparing wooden pallets for repair and shipment by grinding, smoothing, and removing defects such as protruding nails, sharp edges, and damaged wood. This position plays a critical role in ensuring pallets meet safety, quality, and production standards prior to repair and customer delivery.
Hours & Pay:
Monday - Thursday
2nd Shift 3:30 pm - 11:30 pm
Pay rate- $18.00 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Operate handheld grinders and related power tools to smooth pallet deck boards, stringers, and blocks
- Remove protruding or exposed nails, splinters, and rough edges to meet quality specifications
- Prepare pallets for repair in accordance with company and customer standards
- Perform visual inspections after grinding to verify safety and quality compliance
- Identify pallets that require additional repair or removal from production
- Maintain grinders and tools in proper working condition
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of required PPE
- Keep the grinding area clean, organized, and free of hazards
- Meet daily production and efficiency goals while maintaining quality standards
- Communicate any equipment issues or safety concerns to supervision immediately
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience operating grinders or similar power tools preferred
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive physical tasks
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Dependable, team-oriented, and strong work ethic
Work Environment
- Industrial pallet repair facility
- Exposure to wood dust, noise, and debris
- Required use of PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and a safety helmet
