Lead Control Systems Engineer - Peachtree City, Ga (Tyrone)

TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a building automation and controls organization to identify a Lead Control Systems Engineer to support end-to-end project execution across design, programming, commissioning, and customer delivery. The firm delivers integrated automation solutions for commercial and industrial environments and is expanding its engineering leadership capacity.

Summary

This role is responsible for leading building automation projects from design through commissioning while providing technical direction to small engineering teams. The Lead Control Systems Engineer will manage customer engagement, system configuration, and onsite startup activities while ensuring high-quality execution of control system solutions. The position requires strong hands-on experience in PLC/DDC programming, HMI configuration, instrumentation selection, and field commissioning within HVAC-driven automation environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction for a project engineering team of 2–5 engineers

• Lead customer meetings including design reviews and project coordination

• Support proposal development through cost estimation and engineering effort analysis

• Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing customers

• Develop instrument lists using P&ID drawings and project specifications

• Select instrumentation including transmitters, flow meters, and valve actuators

• Select and specify control system hardware for project requirements

• Prepare submittal documentation for control systems and instrumentation

• Design panel layouts and electrical schematics for control enclosures

• Inspect completed control panels for quality and compliance

• Configure HMI interfaces and system visualization components

• Program PLC, DDC, and/or DCS control logic and algorithms

• Perform internal testing and system validation activities

• Develop system documentation and support customer acceptance testing

• Deploy control system software onsite and support commissioning activities

• Perform loop checks, calibration, tuning, and functional system testing

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or technical degree in engineering or related field

• 3+ years of experience in building automation, controls, or related industry

• Experience with Rockwell Automation (FactoryTalk, RSLogix/Studio 5000, PlantPAx preferred)

• Experience with AVEVA System Platform or Inductive Automation Ignition Perspective

• Experience with Distech systems, BACnet, and LON protocols

• Exposure to Johnson Controls Metasys or Facility Explorer (preferred)

• Familiarity with Tridium Niagara N4 (preferred)

• Knowledge of SQL or scripting languages (VBA, Python, etc.)

• Familiarity with Kepware OPC, ThinManager, and VMware (preferred)

• Strong understanding of HVAC systems and building automation sequences
