Forklift Mechanic

Location: Suffolk County, NY Full-Time | Competitive Pay | Stable Work Environment

A busy distribution and warehouse operation in Suffolk County is seeking an experienced Forklift Mechanic to maintain and repair a large fleet of material handling equipment. This is a hands-on position for a mechanically skilled professional who can work independently and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

• Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on electric and propane forklifts

• Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, fuel, and mechanical systems

• Repair pallet jacks and other warehouse material handling equipment

• Conduct routine safety inspections and ensure OSHA compliance

• Maintain accurate maintenance records and service documentation

• Order and track parts as needed

• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime

• Ensure all equipment is operating safely before returning to service

✅ Qualifications:

• 5+ years of forklift or heavy equipment repair experience preferred

• solid knowledge of electric and propane-powered lift trucks

• Experience with hydraulics, electrical diagnostics, and engine repair

• Ability to read service manuals and schematics

• Welding/fabrication experience is a plus

• Own tools preferred

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a warehouse setting

• solid troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently

salary: $50,000 - $75,000 per year
shift: First
work hours: 8 AM - 4 PM

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to breakdowns quickly to minimize operational downtime

• Coordinate parts ordering and manage inventory of repair components

• Ensure all equipment meets safety standards before returning to service

The essential functions of this role include:

• working up to 5 hrs of overtime per week
