Senior Accountant

Position Summary

My client is seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Senior Accountant to join their Real Estate Development team. This role will be instrumental in managing the financial operations and reporting for multiple development projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting within the construction or real estate industry, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-based environment.

Key Responsibilities

Project Accounting & Cost Management

· Track and report on project budgets, actuals, commitments, and forecasts.

· Monitor construction draws and ensure proper documentation for loan draws.

· Maintain accurate cost coding and classification of development expenses.

General Accounting

· Prepare monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements for development entities.

· Oversee accounts payable and receivable related to development projects.

· Coordinate with the construction and project management teams to ensure alignment on financial status and spending.

Reporting & Compliance

· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal stakeholders and external partners.

· Assist with lender and investor reporting, including compliance with financing agreements and covenants.

· Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.

Process Improvement & Controls

· Support the implementation of financial controls and project accounting best practices.

· Identify areas for automation and process improvements across development accounting functions.

Collaboration & Support

· Partner closely with Development Managers, Project Managers, Legal, and Finance teams.

· Assist in preparing pro forma financial models and project cash flow projections.

· Support annual audit and tax preparation for development entities.

Qualifications

Required:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

·5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in construction or real estate development

· Strong understanding of project accounting and cost tracking

· Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Yardi, QuickBooks, or similar)

· Advanced Excel skills

· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred:

· CPA or working toward certification

· Experience with development financing, loan draws, and investor reporting

· Familiarity with joint venture accounting and multi-entity consolidations
