About the Role

We're seeking a new breed of software developer—one who combines deep technical expertise with the ability to leverage AI tools to rapidly build and deploy innovative solutions. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll work directly with our strategic customers, understanding their unique challenges and co-developing solutions that unlock real business value.

This customer-facing role offers the opportunity to work alongside FM's hands-on founders and subject matter experts, tackling undefined problems in evolving spaces through an experiment-driven, iterative approach.

What You'll Do

Customer Collaboration

• Embed deeply with strategic customers to understand their business challenges and technical requirements
• Design, architect, and develop full-stack solutions using an experiment-driven, iterative approach
• Prepare detailed scopes of work and project plans for both proof-of-concept prototypes and full production deployments

Technical Development

• Build and maintain FM's proprietary systems and infrastructure
• Leverage Generative AI tools to accelerate development cycles
• Apply advanced prompting techniques to maximize AI-assisted development efficiency

Knowledge Sharing

• Contribute to internal knowledge bases, documenting best practices and insights
• Help scale the Forward Deployed Engineering function across the organization

What We're Looking For

Experience & Background

• 6+ years of experience in software or customer engineering roles with strong customer-facing focus
• Proven track record of rapidly prototyping ideas and bringing them to production
• Experience working in undefined or evolving problem spaces

AI-Powered Development

• Demonstrated experience with Generative AI development tools (Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, or similar)
• Deep understanding of advanced prompting techniques including role prompting, input/output examples, explicit context setup, and iterative chaining
• Ability to leverage AI tools to accelerate software development processes

Technical Skills

• Frontend: Proficiency in React, Next.js, or similar modern frameworks
• Backend: Strong skills in Python, Node.js, or equivalent technologies
• Databases: Experience with structured (PostgreSQL), unstructured (MongoDB), and vector databases (PG Vector, Pinecone), plus cloud database solutions (Neon, Supabase)
• Quality & Operations: Expertise in testing, debugging, observability, and logging for production applications
