Position Summary:
Under the leadership of the Director, Nursing, the Monitor Technician is an active member of the department that collects data, provides comfort measures and basic care to patients. The Monitor Technician collects data, enters laboratory and radiology requests into the computer systems, performs basic patient care under direct nurse supervision and performs unit secretary duties within the ICU Department. The Technician monitors the cardiac display/scopes, records, detects and reports the abnormal rhythms to the RN’s caring for the patients. The Monitor Technician may also function as a Patient Care Technician.
Basic Qualifications:
· Education:
Requires a high school diploma in General Studies or a GED state certification.
Requires the completion of a basic arrhythmia course within six months of hire.
· Experience:
Requires up to one year of work-related experience and on-the-job training or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:
No certification required for this position.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
· Monitors the cardiac display/scopes, records, detects, and reports the abnormal rhythms to the RN’s caring for the patients.
· Prints standard and abnormal rhythms in accordance with unit guidelines.
· Collects and enters patient data, vital signs, patient care provided, INOs or other relevant information into the electronic health record according to hospital policy.
· Performs unit secretary duties within the ICU Department and may also function as a Patient Care Technician as needed.
· Ensures that all care is delivered in a customer friendly manner.
- Complies with CRHS and department safety, infection control and performance improvement initiatives to ensure the delivery of quality care and services.
- Maintains and expands knowledge of medical terminology.
- Provides basic clerical support, entering data and orders into the charts, as requested.
- Presents a professional image to CRHS nursing, clinical and medical staff members, patient, families, and visitors according to CRHS policy.
· Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Standards of Performance:
- Accurately enters orders for physician, laboratory, radiology, and all ancillary departments into the Meditech computer system as measured by incidents of improperly labeled requisitions from the lab and radiology departments.
- Recognizes dysrhythmias and notifies the Registered Nurse caring for the patient of all dysrhythmias.
- Performs all assigned patient care duties in a timely and accurate manner as measured by logs, charts, and observation.
- Performs basic clerical support functions as measured by observations of Manager and co-workers.
- Complies with all standards of care, safety and infection control policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates reliability as measured by compliance with the CRHS Time and Attendance policy.
- Demonstrates professional conduct and adherence to all safety, confidentiality, and HIPAA standards.
- Promotes teamwork with the entire staff, as well as other contacts within the hospital, as measured by observations of Manager and co-workers.
- Attends professional develop programs mandatory competency programs and in-service training and meets the minimum requirement for continuing professional education as specified by hospital policy.
- Adheres to the CRHS Standards of Behavior as measured by observations of Manager, staff, as well as outside and other inside customers.
- Verbalizes all core competencies of the unit and department and attends an annually competency review.
- Actively participates as a member of the healthcare team by attending all mandated in-services and a minimum of 75% of the unit staff meetings and employee forums. Complies with all regulatory requirements including the National Patient Safety Goals as observed by peers, supervisor, and all members of the healthcare team.
