PreK Lead Teacher

Summary

This position reports directly to the Director. This position will plan and conduct an educational program to introduce
young children to the basic principles of literacy, numeracy, music and art, and to promote their physical, emotional,
intellectual and social development.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES
➢ Establish and maintain a neat and orderly classroom
➢ Instruct students utilizing curriculum as established by Excell
➢ Treat all students and parents with respect
➢ Strive daily to exhibit the qualities that reflects Excell’s mission, goals and values

Duties

Pre-K Instructors perform the following tasks:
➢ Assume the Lead role in the classroom which entails directing activities and other Associates in the
implementation of lesson plans and school policy.
➢ Plan activities using a variety of materials and equipment designed to encourage development of good co￾ordination, social skills, creativity, self-expression and an interest in learning
➢ Promote language development and self-confidence through story telling, drama, music and discussions,
held either individually or within a group
➢ Help organize and participate in excursions to enhance learning experiences, especially about the natural
environment.
➢ Encourage children to question and explore the world they live in.
➢ Observe children to evaluate and recorded their progress, recommending appropriate programs for further
development, and to detect signs of developmental disorder, ill health or emotional disturbance.
➢ Promote health and safety concepts with social interaction with other children
➢ Promote an awareness and appreciation of, and sensitivity to, the multi-cultural society in which we live.
➢ Be creative in finding ways to teach and entertain the children.
➢ Remain active and alert at all times.
➢ Attend yearly Bright from The Start and Excell training as required
➢ Hug and embrace the children often.
➢ Maintain control and observe conduct of children at all times.
➢ Keep room clean and orderly at all times
➢ Supervise the children at play, ensuring their safety at all times.
➢ Always check the playground for hazards, such as sticks, rocks, etc., everyday.
➢ Attend to sick children and those in need of first aid.
➢ Comfort children who are hurt or distressed.
➢ Assist children with daily routines such as toileting, dressing, eating, sleeping and other personal matters.
➢ Discuss with parents aspects of the child’s development.
➢ Discuss with parents the aims of the education program.
➢ Participate in community activities and parent/staff meetings
➢ Work cohesively with Pre-K Assistant.

➢ A willingness to learn
➢ Able to identify problems and contribute to effective resolutions
➢ Sound literacy and numeracy skills
➢ Must demonstrate computer literacy
➢ High level planning and organizational skills
➢ Enthusiasm, tact, patience and a sense of humor
➢ Ability to lift children and equipment.
➢ Ability to think laterally and to teach using flexible methods

Requirements

The minimum qualifications are:
➢ Three to Four years experience in the childcare field or equivalent education.
➢ CDA certification preferred.
➢ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
➢ Knowledge of theory and practice of early childhood education
➢ Knowledge of operation of a preschool program
➢ Knowledge of children’s games and craft activities
➢ Knowledge of simple record keeping and office procedures
➢ Knowledge of standard office equipment
➢ Must maintain an acceptable level of personal hygiene.
➢ Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or stack objects not to exceed 25 lbs.
