About the Opportunity

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with commercial construction experience to join our team! An integral member of our Construction team, the Senior Project Accountant will oversee the financial health of multiple construction projects, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across all accounting processes. This role serves as both a technical expert and a mentor, guiding junior Project Accountants while working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and leadership. The Senior Project Accountant will also serve as the primary liaison for project financials, providing accurate reporting, forecasting, and cost controls.

This position will work from our office in Atlanta (Perimeter Center). While the position is primarily office-based, occasional extended hours or weekend work may be necessary to meet project deadlines. Candidates should be prepared to maintain flexibility in their schedule to accommodate project and operational demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage project-level accounting for multiple construction projects, including job cost budgets, forecasting, billing, and change order tracking.
  • Serve as the primary financial liaison for assigned projects, ensuring clear communication on budgets, cost trends, and risks.
  • Monitor and review change orders, budget revisions, and cost controls with Project Managers to mitigate risks and prevent overruns.
  • Ensure project financial documentation is accurate, complete, and audit-ready, maintaining compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance and peer mentorship to junior Project Accountants, reviewing work for accuracy and adherence to procedures.
  • Manage deadlines for invoicing, billings, and reporting, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Oversee subcontractor compliance documentation, including COIs, lien waivers, and pay applications.
  • Set up and maintain project budgets in Procore and QuickBooks, ensuring accurate cost coding, timely updates, and data integrity.
  • Prepare and review financial reports (job cost reports, variance analyses, forecasts) and present findings and recommendations to project teams and leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of project accounting experience in commercial construction.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. (Preferred)
  • Proficiency with Procore and QuickBooks required.
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting standards, compliance, and reporting.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Project Managers, Superintendents, and leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
