SSA Mailroom General Clerk 3 / Lead Clerk
Job Description:
Position Summary:
Provides mail distribution services for the Social Security Administration (SSA) office. This position follows detailed procedures in completing several repetitious, clerical steps, such as opening, stamping and delivering letters / packages; affixing postage to outgoing mail and operating basic office equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect mail from various mail stops.
- Receive daily mail during hours of operation between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
- Open, date stamp and sort incoming mail by department.
- Deliver mail to different offices using a pushing mail cart.
- Meter outgoing mail using mailing machines equipped with postage meters supplied by SSA.
- Deliver administrative office supplies, photocopy paper, etc.
- Distribute printed materials.
- Assist customers at service window.
- Store office supply requests from various departments for future reference.
- Sort and lift incoming mail for distribution and dispatch outgoing mail.
- Deliver accountable mail within one hour of its arrival.
- Assist SSA employees in preparing materials for mailing.
- Re-address undeliverable mail bearing incomplete or incorrect address.
- Must maintain a good attendance record.
- Backup of the Nobis Enterprises Supervisor, directing workflow in the office in the absence of the Supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must pass drug screen, Nobis Enterprises background check and SSA national security clearance.
- Eligible to work in the United States.
Education:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
Prior Experience Desirable:
- One-year experience in an office and/or mailroom setting.

- Ability to organize work area and maintain data for required reports.

- Ability to meet contract office requirement standards and prescribed deadlines.
- Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong; recognizing there is a problem.
Equipment
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
- Working knowledge of telephones, copy and fax machines and mail metering equipment.

Physical Requirements:
- Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
- Be able to reach overhead.
- Be able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time.
- Be able to handle, lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
- Be able to handle mailbags, mail hampers, and packages often weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Good hand dexterity. Ability to make precisely coordinated
movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate,
or assemble small objects.
- Good eyesight.
Visual Effort:
- Well-lit office environment requiring average amount of visual
effort.
- Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet).
Safety:
- Follows all prescribed safety regulations to diminish accidents.
- Understanding of OSHA safety requirements.
- Knowledge of evacuation procedures and the whereabouts of exits and fire extinguishers.
- Immediately report circumstances you consider may present a hazard to yourself and others.
- Report any accident whether minor or major.
Security
- Must abide by all security regulations of the facility.
- Must obtain and wear a photo ID.
