Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties related to troubleshooting, training, and making recommendations to improve workflow. This position requires a high level of precision in collecting and handling specimens, as well as excellent communication skills to explain procedures to patients.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, as required.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles, fully understanding all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders.
- Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct by checking against scripts.
- Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of recent phlebotomist experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- Phlebotomy skills including blood draw, venipuncture, and specimen collection.
- Customer service experience.
- Experience with blood draws and handling hard sticks from pediatric to geriatric patients.
- Proficiency in straight needle venipuncture.
- Specimen processing skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience performing venipunctures; 2 years preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Work Environment
This role is based at a Primary & Urgent Care site. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, with a 1-hour lunch break. Training will be conducted at a designated location close by. The position involves both independent and team work, handling 30+ draws daily, and working with patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly. The site is a non-smoking environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norcross, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
