Position Summary

Soul Foodies is seeking a skilled, dependable, and detail-oriented Fry Cook to join our culinary team. The Fry Cook is primarily responsible for preparing all fried menu items, maintaining the fry station, supporting food expediting operations, and assisting other kitchen stations as needed.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands the importance of timing and consistency, and takes pride in producing high-quality food while maintaining a clean and organized workstation. This position requires strong communication skills, a sense of urgency, and the ability to work collaboratively with the entire kitchen team.

Essential ResponsibilitiesFry Station Operations

• Prepare and cook all fried menu items according to Soul Foodies recipes, specifications, and quality standards.
• Maintain proper cooking temperatures and fryer performance throughout the shift.
• Ensure fried food is cooked consistently, safely, and served at peak quality.
• Monitor cooking times to ensure timely order completion and smooth kitchen operations.
• Properly season, portion, and prepare menu items according to established recipes.
• Maintain adequate product levels and communicate inventory needs to management.

Food Expediting & Quality Control

• Assist with expediting orders during service periods.
• Verify order accuracy before food leaves the kitchen.
• Ensure all food items meet company standards for quality, presentation, and portion control.
• Communicate effectively with line cooks, prep cooks, cashiers, and expeditors to ensure smooth order flow.
• Assist with packaging and organizing takeout, pickup, delivery, and catering orders when needed.
• Ensure all necessary condiments, utensils, sauces, and accompaniments are included with orders.

Kitchen Operations

• Support all kitchen stations during busy service periods.
• Assist with prep work, stocking, and production as assigned.
• Follow company recipes, cooking procedures, and food presentation standards.
• Maintain awareness of ticket times and prioritize orders accordingly.
• Assist with catering production and large-order preparation when necessary.
• Adapt to changing business demands and assist wherever needed.

Cleanliness & Sanitation

• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary fry station at all times.
• Clean fryers, baskets, filters, surrounding equipment, and work areas according to company procedures.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
• Properly handle and dispose of cooking oil according to company standards.
• Complete assigned cleaning duties and side work before the end of each shift.
• Keep floors, walls, shelves, and storage areas clean and free of hazards.

Teamwork & Customer Service

• Understand that every order directly impacts the guest experience.
• Work collaboratively with all team members to ensure efficient operations.
• Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a positive attitude.
• Support team members whenever additional assistance is needed.
• Contribute to a positive kitchen culture focused on quality, teamwork, and accountability.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in a high-volume restaurant kitchen preferred.
• Experience operating commercial fryers and preparing fried foods required.
• Experience with Southern cuisine, soul food, Creole cuisine, or scratch cooking preferred.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper cooking procedures.
• Ability to communicate clearly with team members and management.
• ServSafe Certification preferred or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously for 8 hours or more.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds regularly.
• Ability to safely work around hot oil, cooking equipment, and sharp utensils.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions including lifting, stirring, frying, stocking, and cleaning.
• Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment.
