Description:
Ulm Automotive, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented Inventory Specialist to oversee the inventory of parts, materials, tools, and supplies that support our custom Sprinter and van conversion builds. This position plays a vital role in keeping production running efficiently by maintaining accurate inventory records, receiving and organizing shipments, issuing materials to production teams, and ensuring the right components are available when needed. By proactively monitoring inventory levels and communicating material needs, the Inventory Specialist helps minimize production delays, reduce waste, and support the timely completion of high-quality custom van conversions.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment. This individual will work closely with purchasing, production, and shop leadership to ensure materials are properly received, stored, tracked, and distributed, contributing to the overall success, efficiency, and craftsmanship of every build.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, label, and store incoming parts, hardware, lumber, electrical components, plumbing materials, appliances, fasteners, and other van conversion supplies.
- Maintain accurate inventory records using inventory software, spreadsheets, purchase orders, packing slips, and work order documentation.
- Perform regular cycle counts and physical inventory audits; investigate and reconcile discrepancies between system records and actual stock.
- Organize warehouse, shop, and storage areas so production teams can quickly locate materials and tools.
- Pull and issue parts for active van builds according to build sheets, bills of materials, and production schedules.
- Monitor stock levels and communicate reorder needs to purchasing, production, or management before shortages affect build timelines.
- Coordinate with vendors and shipping carriers regarding delivery timing, backorders, damaged goods, returns, and warranty-related parts.
- Track high-value, specialty, and long-lead-time components such as batteries, inverters, solar equipment, refrigerators, cabinetry parts, seats, windows, and roof accessories.
- Support material flow between receiving, fabrication, installation, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, and final assembly areas.
- Identify slow-moving, obsolete, damaged, or incorrect inventory and recommend corrective action.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized inventory area in accordance with company safety standards.
- Assist with process improvements that reduce waste, improve inventory accuracy, and support on-time van deliveries.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 or more years of experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, shipping and receiving, purchasing support, manufacturing, automotive, RV, marine, or related shop environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Basic computer skills, including spreadsheets, email, and inventory or warehouse management systems.
- Ability to read purchase orders, packing slips, labels, build sheets, and basic bills of materials.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating closely with production, purchasing, and management teams.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with van conversions, automotive parts, RV components, electrical systems, cabinetry materials, or off-grid power components.
- Forklift, pallet jack, or material handling experience.
- Familiarity with inventory software, barcode systems, or ERP platforms.
- Experience supporting a production shop with multiple active projects.
- Understanding of FIFO inventory practices, cycle counting, and loss prevention procedures.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and move throughout a shop or warehouse environment for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with assistance or equipment for heavier items.
- Comfortable working around vehicles, tools, production equipment, lumber, metal parts, adhesives, and common shop materials.
- Must follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
