A day in the life in Covington, GA
Your morning starts by reviewing the latest architectural and structural sets. You translate those into precise connection details and build out clean 2D/3D models in AutoCAD, Tekla, or similar software. After a quick stand-up with engineers and the project manager, you finalize shop and fabrication drawings, double-checking dimensions and fit-up. Midday, you coordinate with the fabrication team to resolve a design question, document the revision, and issue updated drawings. You wrap up by logging changes, pushing a progress update, and preparing for tomorrow’s coordination meeting.
What you’ll do- Produce accurate shop and fabrication drawings for structural steel components.
- Interpret architectural and engineering plans to create constructible steel detailing.
- Develop and refine CAD models and drawing sets using AutoCAD, Tekla, or comparable tools.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to confirm design intent and specifications.
- Work directly with fabrication teams to troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during production.
- Maintain organized documentation of drawings, revisions, and approvals.
- Participate in project meetings and provide regular detailing status updates.
- Demonstrated experience as a Structural Steel Detailer or in a closely related drafting role.
- Proficiency with CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, Tekla, or equivalent.
- Solid understanding of structural steel design principles and fabrication processes.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to deliver accurately under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Associate’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
- Knowledge of industry standards and codes relevant to structural steel detailing.
